Beginning to Quilt Making- This is a Seven week course
Class Policy – Please Read
- Registration for class can only be made with full payment of the class fees in the store.
- Cancellations may be accepted up to 4 business days prior to class with a full refund.
- The class is considered set 4 days prior to start date and no refunds or credits will be given for any late cancellations.
- Let It Sew reserves the right to cancel a class if the class minimum is not met. We will gladly refund your class fee. We will send out email notifications if this were to happen. You are welcome to call the Store to make sure the class is still a go 4 days prior to class.
- Out of consideration to other students and the teacher we ask that you do not bring small children, guests and that your cell phones are turned off before class starts.
- No outside food or drink, water bottles and some snacks will be provided.
- Please try to arrive 15 minutes early to set up your work station if possible.
- If possible please call to let us know if you are unable to make a session.
- Copyrighted Books and Patterns- It is illegal to copy printed materials for class. Each individual if available can buy to own/purchase a copy of the book or pattern for the class, no copying. SORRY NO EXCEPTIONS!

SUPPLIES:
- Complete Guide to Quilting, by Meridith Corporation, 2002 is part of class and will be given out at the beginning of class
- Sewing Machine (Please be familiar with your machine and have it in operating order. Bring the manual and remember your power cord and foot pedal.)
- Rotary cutter (45mm or 60mm), ruler (6 " X 24"), and mat at least (18" X 24"). You do not need to bring your mat to class but you will need one for work at home.
- Thread clipper or small sharp scissors
- Pins- Extra long
- Seam Ripper
- Thread to match fabric
- New Needles size 80
- Fabric
- Safety Pins (at least 100)
- Walking foot for your machine if have one
- Batting to fit your quilt
- Shape Cut Ruler
- 12 " square ruler
- Chalk wheel marker
- Buy your fabric. We can help you with your fabric choices if you would like by stop by the store a 10% discount will be given for any materials bought for class.
- If you are unsure about mats, rulers and rotary cutters, wait and buy them at the beginning of the first class
Note: These yardage requirements include grace in case of error in cutting or piecing - just in case!
CLASS SLLYABUS
CLASS 1: Optional—for those needing assistance with fabric/equipment or machine help.
- Chapter 1—Tools, Notions, Supplies
- Chapter 2—Fabric and Color
- Chapter 10—Batting and Backing (chart pg. 3)
- Machine operation, presser feet, adjust tension, other questions.
CLASS 2: Need all fabrics and equipment. Cutting strips, sewing into sections (6 ½” wide), pressing/ironing.
- Chapter 5—Cutting
- Chapter 7—Machine Piecing (pressing)
CLASS 3: Cut sections into 35—6 ½” square blocks, lay out blocks (5 across X 7 down), and sew rows together.
- Chapter 5—Cutting (pg. 12)
- Chapter 9—Assembling the Quilt Top
CLASS 4: Sew rows together to complete top, cut and sew on borders. Determine quilting method/design.
- Chapter 9—Assembling the Quilt Top (pressing, cutting/sewing borders)
- Chapter 11—Hand and Machine Quilting
CLASS 5: Layer top, batting, and back together, mark, and machine quilt. Cut binding.
- Chapter 10—Batting and Backing
- Chapter 11—Hand and Machine Quilting
- Chapter 12—Binding and Finishing
CLASS 6: Square quilt, apply binding, make/attach label, make/attach hanging sleeve (opt).
